Doctors Knowledgeable About Posterior Tongue-Tie

If you find a doctor or dentist knowledgeable about or willing to learn about Posterior Tongue-Tie, let me know! I would love to build a list so that other moms can get help!

It's so frustrating when you go to a specialist, only to find that they don't know anything about what you think they should know!  As frustrating as it is, I guess we can't fault the ENT's, as they weren't taught it in the first place. Many, many, many years ago, midwives used to keep one long fingernail just for the purpose of cutting a newborn's abnormal frenulum.  In the mid-1900s, when formula became popular (and thus breastfeeding sort of fell "out of style"), fewer people cared about tongue-ties (unless they were glaringly obvious).  Posterior tongue-ties were removed from ENT textbooks!

Now that breastfeeding is becoming so much more popular (and even pushed in some states and hospitals), we need to do our part in educating doctors and dentists on the importance of tongue-ties and how it affects breastfeeding!

Update: I took Jackson to a pediatric dentist recently.  It seems that insurance frequently doesn't cover pediatric dentists, but if you are willing to pay for the visit, they are familiar with and willing to diagnose PTT.  Although not all of them are trained to fix it, they would be able to refer you to someone who can.  Call your insurance ahead of time.  If there are no pediatric dentists in their network, they may set up a temporary approval code and pay for the visit, anyway.  It worked for us!
